Epilate – Its Origin and Evolution


Epilate – Epilating is a process of removing hairs by pulling out the entire hair follicle, including the root. It has been practiced even by ancient civilizations after the discovery of crude wooden tweezers. The act of removing body hairs also known as to epilate was practiced long ago specifically by women in order to obtain smooth, hairless skin. And having a smooth and silky-like skin is a measurement of being a beautiful woman.

Epilate – The History

As civilization improved, new discoveries were learned. Studies on epilation also developed into full research. It was also discovered that in achieving soft and delicate skin, there are other parts of the body that must be cleared with hairs, and that includes the face, legs, arms, underarms, chest, and bikini line. The femininity of a woman highly depends on her physical body appearance. Being a beautiful woman is a great pressure in developing and maintaining her physical appearance. And skin is the most important part of her body. The definition of a beautiful woman highlights on her soft, healthy and hairless glowing skin. It is a big failure for a woman with a beautiful and pretty face, so graceful and feminine but with rough hairy legs. For them, having smoothed, flawless, and delicate skin is a great physical asset, which contributes a lot in measuring women’s beauty perfection.

New kinds of devices were discovered to perform epilate. The evolution of design, concepts, and enhancing the device’s function, contribute to a modern approach and practice of epilate. More demands and complaints are raised that needs an immediate solution. And one of the negative effects of epilate is the pain it offers to a person during the process. However as time goes by, new technology is being introduced to improve the procedure. It was discovered that it is not the procedure that causes pain but the device being used. Researcher continues to enhance and developed those devices and discovered an epilator. Eradicating the old wooden and metal tweezers, sharp dangerous blades and razors, and replaced it with an epilator. Although epilator comes in handy, more safe and easy to use, still it causes pain in constant use.

Application of hair removal gel, cream and liquid hair removal, and the well known wax strip applications are those new fads in hair removal. Alternative solutions and applications are still in need, thus they continue to develop the epilator.  Evolutions of different epilators which are used to epilate are produced, eliminating pain and discomfort. New models are designed to compliment the demands and purposes of every woman.

Presently, expensive and more advanced methods of hair removal are newly introduced and being applied in the market, such as laser hair removal treatments, however costly and expensive but still follows the basic principle of epilate. Women of a new generation continue to practice various hair removal techniques in achieving a new generation type of skin. Women continue of searching to achieve an almost baby-like skin; so smooth to touch, silky-like to feel, and flawless, hairless sensitive skin. The epilate process will continue to be her weapon in her search for the perfect skin.
